New project board tab
June 25, 2025 #project #boardThe board tab for the project page has been expanded with a stackup visualization, additional features for board fabrication, and indicators to help you qualify for ProtoBoard and avoid delays caused by manual quoting.
Stackup visualization
Instead of manually checking whether your board spec matches, we automatically find the best match for your project and show it to you directly. If you see a stackup with the Standard tag next to its name, then you're good to go.
New board features
We've updated the board editor to better represent our capabilities. Many of these features were already available but needed to be specified under custom requirements. Now, the following features are exposed directly in the editor:
- 0.5oz copper weights for inner board layers
- Non-standard dielectric materials including aluminum, Rogers, flex, and rigid-flex
- Gold fingers, with the option for hard gold plating and/or chamfer
- ENEPIG surface finish
- Additional Tg levels
ProtoBoard qualification
If your board does not qualify due to specifications that cannot be changed, such as board width or minimum trace width, the side panel will display a list of errors. The only way to fix these issues is by uploading new EDA files that meet the requirements.
If your board does not qualify due to specifications that can be changed, such as soldermask color or board thickness, the side panel will display a list of warnings that can be corrected by adjusting the selections in the board editor. The options that qualify will have a lightning bolt icon next to their name to help you find them.
Manual quoting
Similarly, board options that will trigger manual quoting now have an hourglass icon next to them to indicate that our quoting team will need to evaluate your project to generate a quote. This introduces approximately a 24-hour delay.
Future
In the near future, we will be expanding our quoting system so that fewer configurations require manual quotings. We will also add better support for adding and organizing your custom stackups so that they can be reused across all of your projects, as part of a larger MyStackups feature.
